So, this is the first post in what, I hope, will be a very informative and educational blog for some, and a heartwarming experience for all. Let me start by telling a little about myself. My husband, Jesse, and I have been married for 7 years, and we were trying to conceive a biological child for most of those 7 years. Due to both male and female factor infertility, a biological child was not fated for us, so we have turned our attention to adoption! After taking a break from all of the fertility treatments and struggles, and the heartache that accompanies them, and taking time to reconnect as a married couple, we are now starting down the path for our adoption journey. I am looking forward to being able to finally hold our baby in my arms, and I know Jesse is looking forward to it just as much as I am! A little more about us, I am 29 years old, and Jesse is 39, Jesse's been in the Navy for almost 7 years now, and we have moved from Western Washington to Southern California and have recently landed in Eastern Texas. We currently have 3 wonderful fur babies in the form of our two cats and a dog. The cats are 6 years old, and the dog is 8 years old. Our cats are Aflac and Rex and our dog is Toni. Aflac is a black and grey tabby-tuxedo domestic medium hair, Rex is a black and white tuxedo domestic short hair, and Toni is a blonde and chocolate brindle pit bull.
Tonight, we finally finished painting, what will be, the baby's room! I'm planning to do a Winnie the Pooh theme in the nursery, and the paint we picked out for the walls and trim will fit it perfectly! We did the walls in a very light blue, with the trim in a somewhat darker blue. Partly because blue is a calming, soothing color, partly because of the Winnie the Pooh theme, and partly because we're wanting to adopt a baby boy for our first child. This week will see the decorations that I have so far (I've been collecting Winnie the Pooh stuff for years), as well as the stuffed animals I have so far, put up on the walls and into a stuffed animal net. So far, the only piece of furniture we have for the baby's room is a dresser, but it can be placed this week as well, and I've got the crib, glider/ottoman combo, changing table and toy box already picked out and placed, in my mind, it's just a matter of buying the furniture piece by piece as we get the chance to.
This week, we also officially begin our adoption journey by applying for financial aid in the form of grants. I have done some research, prior to this, and the cost of everything that will be needed for adopting our baby is close to $24k, so we will be needing a little assistance to cover that.
I think that about covers everything for an introduction to start with. I'm sure I'll think of other things to write about in the coming weeks. I hope everyone has a blessed day!
